My first memory of dancing is not in the studio, but in the streets of Pune at the Ganapati festival procession where I danced for 10-12 hours at a stretch. I always wondered how I could dance for so long? It was never tiring, it was very gratifying. There was always to do with being around people and having a sense of community. That's also why today I act, dance, write, direct, teach, and am willing to explore anything and everything.
I started acting full time when I was 16. My earlier training included Stanislavski Method Acting, Commedia dell'arte - working with masks - and at Adishakti (an Indian performance company known globally for their unique approach theater). There was a paradigm shift in my work after I completed my one year training at Attakkalari Center for Dance and Movement Arts where I trained Kalaripayattu (Indian martial art), Bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance), Ballet, and Contemporary techniques. Since then, movement has been an integral part of my acting work on screen and stage.
I have explored various mediums from independent cinema, commercial cinema, web series, cineplay, musical theater to writing and producing shows and music videos.
Audiences only open their hearts and are vulnerable when they see the performer do the same. This quality of the performer needs to be cultivated and practiced. These artists create moments that can change people's lives. That is what I, as an artist, want to do with the utmost sincerity.
